Laura Mercier Artist's palette

Check out this Laura Mercier Artist's palette for Eyes, released for the holiday.

I believe this is my first Laura Mercier's and I am excited to see 6 cool and 6 warm neutral eyeshadows (0.03oz each) housed in a textured chocolate brown case, with a mirror. Too cool to carry to work but someone's gotta do it :)

I like the fact that most shades in this palette are neutral and arranged from light to deep tones (L-R). Simple thing, yes, but it takes the guess work out of my morning makeup routine, and I'm all for that.

First, natural lighting.

Top row is cool toned, from L-R: Sparkling Dew, Guava, African Violet, Plum Smoke, Kir Royal and Violet Ink.

Bottom row is for warm colours - Vanilla Nuts, Primrose, Fresco, Bamboo, Truffle and Espresso Bean.

Here in a different lighting, the colours look more true to life. You gotta see this palette in person to appreciate its beauty. I can't believe I say this, but neutral and some purple toned eyeshadows make a happy Sparkled Beauty :)

Swatches are to follow below, in the same order.

First row. I haven't used Sparkling Dew much as its matte counter part (Vanilla Nuts in the second row was the brown bone highlight of choice) but it's nice to have options.

Guava is a good gradient to African Violet. Plum Smoke is a muted grey purple, awesome transition colour. Kir Royal and Violet Ink have been my favorites all along, you can see why right? Look at that pigmentation!

Second row. Vanilla Nuts - enough said :) Primrose, Fresco and Bamboo take turn to be the "IT" lid colour for me. Truffle and Espresso Bean play in the crease very nicely and like with the 2 counters from the first row, I am loving their pigmentation as well.

I am very happy with the colour and finish combination in this palette. Good quality eyeshadows all around, you won't find a bad shade with this one. Even the mattes are good mattes, soft and easy to blend.

The palette retails for $60 at Sephora, Limited Edition. I know it costs more than other holiday palettes, with less number of shades, but if you wear lots of neutral looks and want something more than just neutral browns, this is the palette to reach for.

Check out a FOTD I did using a few of my favorite shades from the palette :)

Sephora Holiday LightShow brush set

Isn't this brush set screaming "ME" or what?

Long and thin metallic rainbow handles, black bristles and a half moon black acrylic base to stand them all. Definitely a display piece on your vanity! Appearance gets an A+ already.

This is Sephora Holiday Light Show brush set which is incredibly hard to photograph. In natural lighting, it tends to reflect me and my camera, while with flash it blurs out. A day in the life of a beauty blogger :)

The set comes with 7 face and eye brushes:
- Powder brush
- Foundation brush
- Face contour brush
- Concealer brush
- Shadow brush
- Crease brush and
- Slanted eyeliner brush.

The rainbow on the handles shows gold, pink and purple near the bristles, graduating into blue, teal and green as it gets to the tip of the handles. Beautiful!

The black bristles are a plus too, at least to me, as they are less prone to staining. I know there are good soaps out there to clean stains, but less staining is still better :)

No details on what type of hair the bristles are - some natural, some synthetic as far as I can tell, but they are very soft, no scratchy or irritating feeling.

I did not experience any shedding or colour bleeding during the few weeks of testing either. Let's see what each brush can do!

The Powder brush, the big brother of them all in the set, is not intensely dense. As a result, it mostly does the final dusting of finishing powder for me - which I don't have to do too much during this cold weather. Comes summer, I'd be pulling this one out often for sure.

You can definitely use it for a sheer powder foundation application too, if you have good skin already.

The Foundation brush is of a good size with longer (synthetic) bristles than a typical foundation brush. I can apply a liquid foundation on faster with this brush and it does not leave any streaks or uneven patches.

I can see the flat foundation brushes taking a back seat when flat top kabukis are so popular, but I do not have any complains about this brush. It gets the job done!

The Face contour brush is like a mini powder brush with more flared out and shorter bristles, a tiny bit more dense too.

I prefer a flat/ narrow brush for contouring, so I use this brush the way I do with a small stippling brush. It sheers out cream and powder blushes perfectly on my cheeks for a natural look. I love it for that!

I found the Concealer brush a little stiff, won't use it on the face other than spot concealing. However, because of its synthetic bristles, it is great for applying cream eyeshadow base (hint - Maybelline Color Tattoos), quick and easy. And you know I use Color Tattoos every day, so this brush was popular :)

The shape of this Shadow brush does not make it a good brush for my eyes. It flares out at the tip and a little wide for my small eye lids.

However, it is an awesome concealer brush for my under eye areas. It is soft enough and blends out my cream/ liquid concealer beautifully. The width of it, in this case, makes blending fast and effective. Totally recommend it as a concealer brush :)

For someone who loves doing eye makeup, the Crease brush is a natural draw. It is longer than my current blending brush, beautifully tapered at the tip which allows details crease work.

My favorite way to use it is with a transition colour above the crease though. It helps to erase those harsh lines between my eyeshadows and the highlight shade, a must for those who have smaller eye lids like me. I thought my blending brush was good, until I met this Crease brush.

Lastly, the Slanted eyeliner brush. I know you can't tell from the pic but the bristles are longer and softer than a typical eyebrow brush, so if I use it on my brows, it is to blend out the product. Also, the bristles are not firm enough for precise gel liner application, so I use it to push the liner to my lower lash line only. This brush is one to be used the least in my book.

I think this brush set has a good thing going, in terms of packaging and quality. The only not so good thing about it is the price - The set retails $82 (values $192), Limited Edition. My hope is Sephora will put it on sale like most of its holiday products after Christmas.

FOTD: Laura Mercier & MUFE

Let's see the eyeshadows from Laura Mercier Artist's palette for Eyes in action, shall we?

I am a little too predictable here, you know I'd be wearing Kir Royal, Plum Smoke and Vanilla Nuts. I am also too biased to say I love this palette :) Purples and neutrals, that is what this palette is all about to me.

On the lips are Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip in 10C and Aqua Rouge in 10 Raspberry from the Ultimate Long Lasting Lip kit. I wanted to play out the red lip with crazy blush once again, for pictures only of course. Wanna guess the blush shade?

It's Elf baked blush in Rich Rose. This is to show you how buildable a baked blush (from Elf) could be. Two swipes each cheek max or you would look a little crazy like me here :) Rich Rose would be as pigmented as you want it to, so be sure of how you want it to look before application :)

Other products used:
- Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 hour foundation in 300 Sand
- Hard Candy Glamouflage in Medium
- Maybelline Color Tattoo in Tough as Taupe as eyeshadow base
- Annabelle Retractable eyeliner in Twilighting
- Avon Ultra Luxury brow liner in Dark Brown
- Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara in Carbon Black.

Has it been cold enough where you are? We have reached below 0 (32F) a few nights, frost on the ground early in the morning :( Fall didn't fully arrive, as other than falling leaves, I missed the temperature totally. Oh well, we have bright lipsticks to make up for that!

I want to thank all of you who entered the TwistUp giveaway, it was a success. Post scheduling is getting a little busy this holiday season, but I am hopeful for a good time on the blog and in life. Hope you stick around :)

NOTD: Salon Perfect Jolt

We are going back to my "long time obsession" today - textured polish. It is personal, I know, so I understand if you don't like them but I haven't got tired of them yet. So here goes! :)

This is Salon Perfect Jolt, a shade from their LE Summer collection that a friend in the US CP'ed for me as Canada never got it. The collection created a lot of buzz when it came out. A drugstore line with awesome bright colour combinations and reasonable price? Count me in!

It took a lot to not getting the whole line, but I am happy with the ones I decided on.

I did 3 coats of Jolt by itself here as I wanted to test its opacity. Sure removal was a bit harder but I did not mind it. Future manis with this shade, however, it wouldn't hurt to use a yellow base first :)

Don't know if I told you before, yellow is my favorite colour as I think it is cheerful and positive. But like purple, yellow is hard to get right in the beauty world. Happy to say, this yellow rocks!

Although it's bright, I think this colour combination reminds me of Fall, when the leaves change their colours :)

Now the close-up glory of Jolt, I think it will always remain one of my favorite polishes, even when the texture trend goes out of style.

We are having a cool day today, it seems Fall has come back to town, a good 10-degree rise from the chilling near 0 level we had. Yay Fall!

What will you be up to this (long) weekend? My friends in TO will be enjoying IMATS, and VIBs are busy with the 20% sale at Sephora.

I put in my order this morning, but a thing or two were OOS. Hoping for a restock but it is a slim chance :( Work has been busy, I didn't have much time for anything else. I guess the weekend will be spent tidying up the house and maybe packing for my upcoming trip home.

Kat Von D Spellbinding e/s book

This is a quite talked-about palette I am excited to show you - Kat Von D Spellbinding eyeshadow book. Bear with me while I post about holiday items even when the Sephora sales are over :)

The box and the palette front feature Kat Von D's art work. The palette is thin, easy to tote around but does not come with a mirror. The protective clear plastic sheet over the eyeshadows, with individual shade names printed on it, is not really necessary, IMO. Printing the names right on the palette, and we are friends.

The palette comes with 24 eyeshadows in both neutral and bold shades in matte, metallic and shimmery/ glittery finishes.

The formula is infused with rose extract, supposed to keep the skin around the eyes hydrated, be long lasting and crease free.

First row, from L-R: Dark Throne, Precious, Babe and Piaf
Second row: Sunset Blvd, 8 Bit, Geek and Fallen
Third row: Holy Bible, Oddfellow, Birdcage and Gunner
Fourth row: Instaglam, Stupid Autocorrect, Galore and Hexagram
Fifth row: Smile Now, Cry Later, Arcadia and Wonderland
Last row: Queen, Bukowski, Countess and WTF.

First group of 6, top left corner, 2 each row: Dark Throne, Precious, Sunset Blvd, 8 Bit, Holy Bible and Oddfellow.

This is the least exciting group, just because the light shades need some building up and the dark shades are quite close to each other. Oddfellow's beautiful aqua glitters show up the best on top of a dark base as its own base is not fully opaque, but I do like it. Dark Throne is one black/ gunmetal shade that every palette needs.

Second group, bottom left corner: Instaglam, Stupid Autocorrect, Smile Now, Cry Later, Queen and Bukowski.

Another MAC Club look-alike - Queen is still beautiful as the name suggests. Bukowski is sheer at first swipe but beautiful at 2 layers. My favorite in this group, however, is Cry Later, quite pigmented and goes with almost every look I do. Instaglam and Stupid Autocorrect follow suit.

Third group, top right corner: BabePiaf, Geek, Fallen, Birdcage and Gunner.

Another difficult purple - Babe takes 3 swipes to show up like you see here, and Birdcage is in a similar situation. Fallen is metallic and pigmented, a dream to use.

Last group, bottom right corner: Galore, Hexagram, Arcadia, Wonderland, Countess and WTF.

More metallic goodness here with Galore and Hexagram, they are great to play with. Needless to say though, my eyes are drawn to Wonderland and WTF (lol at the name) and they do not disappoint. WTF leaves a bit of staining on my hand but a makeup remover would take care of it. Countess is the preferable matte brow bone highlight shade and Arcadia is great in the inner lids. My favorite group of colours!

For the money - $66 (values $130, Limited Edition), the palette is a great combination of shades that works for almost everyone from neutral girls to strong colour lovers. No bad shade but one or two need some building up to look good.

Check out the FOTD with Queen as the star of the show :)

It is the coldest day we have so far this season around here, with temperature of -10 (14F) this morning when I left the house. It took a bit of time for me to "thaw" when I got to the office, not kidding!

The good thing in life right now is I can talk makeup, as simple as it sounds :) This is a look I tried using a few eyeshadows from Kat Von D Spellbinding eyeshadow book.
- Stupid Autocorrect as transition colour
- Queen on 2/3 of the lid (a duochrome is always a good way to add depth to the look)
Arcadia in the inner 1/3 of the lid
- Instaglam under the brow bone instead of a matte highlighter as usual. It is not very visible on anyway.

On the lips is Make Up For Ever Aqua Eye 14C and Aqua Rouge 14 Light Rosewood from the Ultimate Long Lasting Lip kit. This is a dark rose colour, half a step up from a MLBB colour on me.

Other products used:
- Marcelle New Age Anti-wrinkle foundation in True Beige
- Cover Fx Conceal Fx Camouflage concealer in Light
- Sephora + Pantone Universe Foiled waterproof eyeliner in Purple
Been wearing a lot of purple liners lately, between this Purple and Annabelle Twilighting. I should branch out a little huh?
- Marcelle Xtension Plus mascara
- Avon Ultra Luxury brow liner in Dark Brown.

Decided to skip the blush for the day as I kinda feel like I should let the foundation take the limelight :) Still enjoy it like the first time I tried it.

Better view of the eye makeup here.

Has there been enough of me smiling in this post? I think so, lol. The stars must be aligned or some miraculous thing happened in the universe that day as I actually snapped some acceptable pics. I normally look better not smiling :)

And yes, the turtle neck sweaters have to come out already, because there was the white stuff on the ground, very sad!

Anyway, hope everyone has recovered from the Sephora sales and (in the US) is ready for Black Friday sales. Your turn to celebrate Thanksgiving now. Someone mentioned on twitter this morning that there are about 1,000 hours until Christmas. Then there will be Boxing Day sales. Are you ready? :)

NOTD: Sephora Nail Blockbuster III

Happy Thursday, ladies! Another week flew by, we are almost at the weekend.

I have been "shopping my stash" lately, painting my nails with shades I've had for a while. The only break was to try the last 3 shades from the  Sephora Nail Blockbuster set - Keep Me Posted!, Black Lace and Party Animal

This Color Hit mani is a winner as all  three shades have great coverage in one coat, apply very easily and show up the same way they look in the bottle. Love it when that happens!

Keep Me Posted! is one of the best teal shades I have had, vibrant and shimmery.

Black Lace is a pigmented black (on the ring finger), proves to be a great base for Party Animal and will be used a lot with other glitters I have, or even by itself.

Party Animal is just like its name, crazily fun with different coloured glitters and multiple sizes of silver glitters. They are not too chunky to still be gritty after top coat. The black base did bring out its colours very well and also helped when it's time to remove the glitters.

See all 3 colours in closeup here! Once again, the undertone of Keep Me Posted! showed up more blue than it looks IRL. But the beautiful shimmers are no lie, make me miss summer!

Life has got busy again, with holiday product reviews, chores and errands, etc. I am going on vacation shortly and there are just so many things to do till then.

Like always, I feel the holiday rush about a month before it actually gets here, because of the vacation schedule. And when it gets here, I am already exhausted lol. Hope you are bracing yourself to avoid unnecessary stress. Hugs to all!

MarcJacobs Showstopper collection

$

It is really getting festive in the beauty world. This is Marc Jacobs Showstopper collection with essentials from the brand in full size (except the EDP) and some new/ Limited Edition shades.

Since its debut at Sephora, Marc Jacobs has been talked about quite a bit with a few standout products.
The price range is totally out of my budget, so while I am happy to receive the kit to review for you guys, I do note the price details if you do consider splurging on a single product.

The collection includes:
- Lash Lifter Gel Volume mascara in Blacquer (0.24oz, reg. $31)
- Magic Marc'er Precision Pen eyeliner in Blacquer (0.016oz, reg. $36)
- Style Eye-con No.3 Plush Shadow palette in The Star (0.12oz, reg. $50)
- Lust For Lacquer Lip vinyl in Kiss This (0.16oz, reg. $34), and
- Marc Jacobs Honey EDP mini rollerball (0.13oz - the full size of 0.24 oz is $30 reg.).

All house in a black patent leather makeup bag designed by Marc Jacobs of course, with a mirror included in the back pocket.

Let's have a look at each product in the collection.

The Lash Lifter Gel Volume mascara is supposed to have the E-Lash-Tic Lash technology, with micro-crystalline powders that coat and stretch the lashes for maximum length, volume, and curl.

I agree with the claim of smooth application and no flakes/ no clumps. The medium sized brush with short bristles is not hard to work with my short lashes. However, I found it did not do much other than making my lashes look a little darker. Not worth the money, I'm afraid.

The Magic Marc'er Precision Pen eyeliner is better - a waterproof liquid eyeliner developed in Japan, inspired by the calligraphy pen for drawing the finest lines. To a newbie like me, the liner was easy to maneuver, and the fast drying formula last quite a good while. It is a good liner, but nothing spectacular compared to its drugstore counterparts.

Now this Style Eye-con No.3 Plush Shadow palette in The Star is my favorite from the set.

It is shimmery and metallic, very holiday appropriate, and a dramatic holiday at that, due to the colour selection.

Marc Jacobs eyeshadows have advanced pigments that allow good color payoff and long lasting performance. I enjoy all three shades equally. The size arrangement of the palette makes sense, as they know we would not need much black to intensify the look as we do with the other two shades.

The Lust For Lacquer Lip vinyl in Kiss This is another fun one.

The formula is champagne grape infused, with antioxidants, essential oils, and a hint of effervescence. The applicator shape makes it easy to distribute the product on the lips, and its side is perfect to line the edges precisely.

This particular shade is not fully pigmented by itself, so I normally use it on top of a lip liner filled in.

Not much I have to say about the Honey EDP mini rollerball other than stating the obvious - It's floral and warm with top notes of pear and mandarin. The base notes of honey, vanilla and smooth woods dry down beautifully. Its size is perfect for your little holiday clutch for those fun parties, or makeup bag for daily use.

Here are the swatches of the coloured products.

At the top are the eyeshadow shades. The while and gold shade both have beautiful metallic sheen. The gold is more sheer, which I prefer to use to top up the eyeshadow in the middle of the lids for that little extra oomph.

The eyeliner is at the bottom left, dark and pretty. The lip vinyl is a beautiful reddish pink, with gold shimmers. On the lips, the shimmers are just enough for the shine, not chunky or uncomfortable. It does have a subtle scent of vanilla mint, hard to describe.

The Showstopper collection retails $107 (values $261), Limited Edition. The makeup bag and mirror are luxurious looking, nice to have but I personally can't justify the whole set. However, if you want the eyeshadow palette, the lip vinyl and the mini rollerball, they add up almost to the price of the set.

Marc Jacobs Lightshow powder

A quick post today guys, as work is getting crazy a week before my vacation. Isn't it always the case? :)

Another Marc Jacobs holiday item to accompany the Showstopper collection, this is the Lightshow luminizing powder in 302 Close-Up. Inspired by Marc Jacobs' Fall 2013 runway show, the compact offers that feeling of luxury once again - the cute little pouch that snaps shut to protect the sleek black compact inside, no accidental slip-out.

And it's even more beautiful under the lid. Look at that!

The weaving pattern is breath taking, shows off a blend of 3 colours - a white, a light gold and a tan.

Marc Jacobs says they are luminous and complexion brightening shades, making the powder multi-dimensional. It does give off that look in the pan, but I can't say it is in fact brightening my complexion without a good amount of that white shade.

The gold shimmers are only on the surface but it would take a while to make them disappear with wear, unless you are willing to wipe them all off at once.

Another claim is the powder has a creamy texture that creates velvet finish and long wear. I do enjoy the finish it gives but the effect is almost visible that it is not easy to tell.

Swatches, done after a few uses of the powder (i.e. the shimmers are still prominent). Not that you can tell, but at the top is the swatch of the powder when I swirl a blush brush around catching all shades.

In the middle is the white side and at the bottom is the gold and tan side of the compact (they are quite close in colours).

All you (and I) can see is the gold glitters all over, not much of a colour payoff. I am aware that I could get the gold and tan shades show up more by using a dense brush, but as I intend to use them as bronzer/ highlighter, a fluffy brush is what I am using.

So, unfortunately, for me, this powder would not be luminizing enough until all that shimmers at the top wear off. And even then, I still wish for more pigmentation and effect that it gives. Once again, the high price tag $71 (for 0.38oz) is not worth it.

In case you want to give this powder a try, it is Limited Edition, might be gone from Sephora soon :)

Brrr... it is really cold today, on the last day of Fall. Flurries are in the air, it would be a beautiful sight if the wind wasn't blowing so hard. I am ready to go play at the beach somewhere warm now.

Back to makeup :) This is my fancy/ luxurious FOTD using Marc Jacobs Lightshow iluminizing powder in Close-up and the Showstopper collection with:
- Style Eye-con No.3 Plush Shadow palette in The Star
- Magic Marc'er Precision Pen eyeliner in Blacquer
- Lash Lifter Gel Volume mascara in Blacquer
- Lust For Lacquer Lip vinyl in Kiss This, layered a few coats for coverage.

Like I mentioned in the review, I love the eyeshadow palette the most for its beautiful colours and pigmentation.

Other products used:
- CoverGirl Clean Whipped creme foundation in 320 Creamy Natural
- Hard Candy Glamouflage in Medium
- Elf baked blush in Rich Rose
- ArtDeco eyeshadow base
- Milani Liquid Eye liquid-like eyeliner pencil in Black on the lower lash line.

Still all the routine products here, nothing out of the ordinary.

I think, unlike me, my skin prefers the cold weather as I haven't broken out as much since the temperature changed dramatically. On lazy days, I went without a concealer and was fine with it emotionally, even though I still had a lot to hide. I guess I am done fighting with flaws and learn to live with them. About time, at this stage in my life huh?

One more pic for the eye makeup close-up. Told you the colours work well together :) Now I understand why many people went for the long palette by the brand during the VIB sale, despite its price tag.

Have a great week guys, we are half way there!

Signed: Hardie Perthshire on Savera Redpath.

Those are my Hunger Games name and my blog's name according to the name generator on Vulture.com. They sound so cool huh? What's yours?

It's even more funny to find out that the generator is very random and not consistent. If I enter my name again, it'd give me a totally different name. Well, I'll stick with Hardie and Savera for now lol.

Are you excited for Catching Fire? I had an opportunity to go for the preview but can't make it, so I went play with makeup instead :)

NOTD: Quo by Orly Prepster

It has been a while that I talked about a Quo nail polish (nor bought a new one, surprisingly), so I figured today is the day :)

This is Quo by Orly Prepster from the permanent line. The colour does not need any explanation other than it's pretty and lands somewhere between a mint and a baby blue. The aqua shimmers are pretty!

I did 3 coats of Prepster on all fingers except the accent nail (see below). It is a bit of a setback when it takes that many coats to be (almost) opaque, but I personally don't mind.

For comparison, on my ring finger is Wet n Wild Megalast nail polish in I Need a Refresh-Mint, another favourite among nail bloggers.

I Need a Refresh-Mint is a cream (without any shimmer), and only takes 2 coats. On the nail, it is a tad darker and more green toned than Prepster.

If finishes do not matter to you, you don't need both shades. To me, the shimmers grant Prepster a spot in the stash. Justified! :) For the opacity, I will use a base with it next time.

In close up, you can definitely see the sheerness of Prepster and the creaminess of I Need a Refresh-Mint.

And if I didn't say enough about the shimmers, see them in this pic too :) It makes the baby blue look more dreamy and iridescent - like the beautiful ocean that mermaids swim in, you know what I mean? Definitely the selling point for me.

So it's already Thursday, I can't believe it. It is going to be a busy weekend for me and Squirt before our trip. Already saw a few sneak peeks of Black Friday promotions popping up already. I'll miss all those, so I'll need you guys to tell me what you get, so I can be jealous :)

The Tarte of Giving Collector's set

$
0
0
I have the big collector item on the blog today, a great holiday gift for yourself or someone you love. It's the Tarte of Giving Collector's set and travel bag. I trust that a stock photo is necessary to show you the whole bag when unfold, due to the length of it.

I am travelling soon and totally plan to take this set with me as it has almost everything I would need, makeup wise, plus 2 skin care items. If you choose to take out the plastic molds that hold the items in place, you would have even more space for other things. Or if you already have other makeup in mind, the bag itself is great for your toiletry and miscellaneous items for the trip. Win win situation huh?

tarte still keeps the signature purple colour theme for their holiday releases, but this time without the gold pattern as we saw in the Carried Away Collector's set last year. The quilted pattern is totally chic and cute all by itself, so I have no complaints.

In the first pouch are deluxe sizes of:
- Pure Maracuja oil, 0.23oz (vs. 1.7oz full size or 0.6oz rollerball)
- Cheek stain in Flush, 0.17oz (1oz full size)
- Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 mascara, 0.16oz (0.24oz full size)
- Maracuja C-brighter eye treatment, 0.08oz (0.35oz full size)
- LE Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush in Memorable, 0.05oz (0.2oz full size).

I don't have any verdict for the eye treatment yet, as it needs more time to perform. Same as the Maracuja oil, it works well on my hair but I haven't used it a lot on the face to confirm its effects. The mascara works well on me, but nothing to write home about compared to my regulars.

The cheek stain (swatched on the left) is more sheer than I thought, gives off a light pink tint where you apply it. I don't think it would work by itself on my cheeks, but as a base for other powder blushes, it makes them look more vibrant and last longer.

The instruction said we could apply it directly on the cheeks but it would pick up my foundation that way, so I opt to use my fingers instead. Easy to blend, no brush needed.

The blush is on the right. Oh Memorable indeed! It is a subtle peachy pink that gives a beautiful wash of colour on the cheeks. In the pan it does not look like anything special, but it is beautiful on. And like any other Amazonian Clay blushes, Memorable holds up to the long lasting power they all have.

On to the eyeshadow palette!

20 LE Amazonian Clay eyeshadows, 0.07oz each, with a clear plastic sheet over them, printed with shades names. I removed it before taking this pic.

Compared to last year's 26-colour palette, grouped in quads, this year's groups of 5 speak to me more as I have more colour choices for looks. Especially when we want to get all fancy and use different shades for the crease, the outer V and the transition up to brow bone highlight shade. That extra dark shade on the right guarantees some awesome smoky looks for the holiday :)

The first group of 5 eyeshadows, from the top left corner, clockwise: Bianca's Coloring Book, Anna's Tea Set, Kate's Puppy, Tom's Stuffed Tiger and Daniel's Teddy Bear.

Bianca's Coloring Book has the least pigmentation among all shades, I only use it on the brow bone once in a while. Anna's Tea Set surprised me with that slight duochrome shine, and Kate's Puppy is a step up from there. Tom's Stuffed Tiger looks like a silver in the pan but has the grey taupe sheen. Daniel's Teddy Bear does not need any description, does it?

The second group in the top right corner: Leigh's Locket, Candace's Tap Shoes, Claire's Cashmere Gloves, Maureen's Soccer Ball and Ali's Bicycle.

Naturally, my eyes are drawn to Candace's Tap Shoes and Maureen's Soccer Ball for their dark look. Ali's Bicycle is another shade that looks different when swatched, it is a taupe, beautiful on the lids. Claire's Cashmere Gloves, being the side bar colour, is the single case where it does not look as dark as its counterparts from other groups.

The group in the bottom left corner: Steph's Pearls, Jess' Storybook, Sam's Ice Skates, Meredith's Hula Hoop and Erica's Dollhouse, still in clockwise order.

Steph's Pearls is a better brow bone highlighter, but is a little too strong on my skin tone for that purpose. Jess' Storybook is a beautiful rose gold I really like. Both Sam's Ice Skates and Meredith's Hula Hoop look more purple in the pan but have very different colour tone when swatched (a brown and a plum base, accordingly). Erica's Dollhouse is a tad lighter than Jess' Storybook.

Last group: Kim's Porcelain Doll, Jen's Jump Rope, Nuria's Boombox, Staci's Charm Bracelet and Scott's Skateboard.

This is the neutral bunch, with Kim's Porcelain Doll showing a light white sheen, great on the brow bones. Jen's Jump Rope did not show up on me so it didn't get used often. Nuria's Boombox is a good safe-for-work crease colour, pairing with Scott's Skateboard, a good (matte) transition shade. Staci's Charm Bracelet has that great metallic bronze payoff, fun on the lids.

The last pouch has 8 Maracuja lip glosses in deluxe size of 0.059oz each (compared to 0.12oz full size), great for your purse.

From L-R: Kam, Finn, Viv, Lizzy, Sully, John, sPence and Ro. Interesting names :)

I enjoy the shades this year a lot more, as the glosses seem to have more pigmentation. The cream shades are creamy, and the shimmery shades have beautiful sheen.

Check out the swatches to see what I mean.

The first four shades on the left - Kam, Finn, Viv and Lizzy.

3 shades with beautiful gold and/or silver shimmers - Kam is a darker pink, Viv is a baby pink, and Lizzy is a fuchsia pink (my favorite shade, naturally).

The only one cream shade (Finn, second from the left) is a reddish pink, which I enjoy wearing quite often.

The second group with Sully, John, sPence and Ro is the other way around in terms of finish. 3 cream, one shimmery shade.

Sully is a darker red, leaning plum. John is a beautiful red, a tad lighter than Finn from above. sPence is a pale pink with awesome almost-holographic shimmers, and Ro is an cool nude (not showing up well on my lips, but would look beautiful on naturally pink lips).

The set retails $71 (values $588) on Sephora, Limited Edition. I do think it is worth the money, but only if you need a whole set of makeup.

Revlon Parfumerie Canada vs. US

So I went and bought 2 shades of Revlon Parfumerie nail polish last night :)
I only wanted Autumn Spice (on the right) to test out the scent and application with the line, thinking the line is permanent and I have lots of time to get other shades. Squirt suggested Powder Puff so it landed in my basket too. Both have beautiful shimmers.

I came home to look up swatches of Powder Puff, google came up with nothing! Turns out, the story of this line is quite complicated and I need to tell you about it ASAP.

Background: The line came out in the US first. After the first batch of 16 shades, another 3 followed (noted with *) and 5 are coming soon (noted with **). 24 shades in total eventually, and they are all permanent.
- Fruits & Florals: African Tea Rose, Apricot Nectar, China Flower, Ginger Melon*, Lime Basil*, Orange Blossom**, Pink Pineapple and Wild Violets

- Sweets & Spices: Autumn Spice, Balsam Fir**, Bordeaux, Chocolate Truffle*, Espresso**, Italian Leather, Moonlit Woods and Spun Sugar

- Freshes: Beachy, Fresh Linen, Lavender Soap, Powder Puff**, Sunlit Grass, Surf Spray, Tropical Rain** and Wintermint.

Our story: In Canada, there are only 16 shades in total, and they are all LIMITED EDITION, as noted on the display.

First tier, from L-R: Fresh Linen, Powder Puff, African Tea Rose, Ginger Melon, China Flower, Bordeaux, Autumn Spice, Beachy, Spun Sugar and Italian Leather.

Second tier: Moonlit Woods, Surf Spray, Wintermint, Balsam Fir, Wild Violet and Espresso.

So yeah, they are not exactly the same as the 16 first shades in the US.
- We get Balsam Fir, Espresso and Powder Puff before the US
- We miss out 8 shades: Apricot Nectar, Chocolate Truffle, Lavender Soap, Lime Basil, Orange Blossoms, Pink Pineapple, Sunlit Grass and Tropical Rain.

There are only 2 bottles of each shade, so if you are Canadian, you'd better get to it before they disappear! The line is 20% off at Lawtons this week, so I paid $5.56 each. Will have to go back for more now.

Looks like they are $8.49 at Shoppers, by the price tag on the display (pic was taken by Makemeoverande, used with permission). Just in time, there is the 3-hour sale on nail polish tomorrow (Thursday, 5-8pm), so there you go! I am not sure about availability/ pricing at Walmart at the moment.

Let me know if you pick up anything from this collection :)

FOTD: The Tarte of Giving

Coming to you today is a FOTD done with the Tarte of Giving Collector's set. Like I said in the review, the eyeshadow grouping makes it a lot easier to do up a look. However, that does not stop me from reaching my brush all over :)

The eyeshadows I used:
- 2 matte shades from the group at the bottom right of the palette: Scott's Skateboard as transition colour, Kim's Porcelain Doll as brow bone highlight
- All colours but one from the top right corner group: Ali's Bicycle in the inner half, Claire's Cashmere Gloves in the outer half of the lid, Maureen's Soccer Ball in the crease and Leigh's Locket as a pop of gold in the middle of the lids.

A lot, I know, but I think the shades are so much fun to incorporate in a look, plus I don't do this everyday :)

Also from the set:
- Maracuja lip gloss in Viv
Yes, I went for the pink showed in the tube. On me, it became a nude pink, which I don't mind as it is refreshingly beautiful
- Cheek stain in Flush, topped with Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush in Memorable
A light flush of pink on the cheeks, not my normal choice of colour but I can't deny that it is beautiful. And as expected, it last all the way till the end of the day
- Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 mascara
The curl still didn't hold very long (yes, I did curl my lashes with a Shiseido lash curler), I have come to acceptance that I can't do much about this :) Next step would probably be a heated lash curler, but the thought of it kinda scares me.

Other products contributed to the look:
- Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover foundation in 123
- Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Spot treatment corrector in Light/ Medium
- Marcelle Waterproof Eyeliner in Electric Blue.

Been loving popping the blue liner on the lower lash line lately, which had nothing to do with the eyeshadow theme lol. I think it balanced out the nude lips I was wearing.

As you might know, I am taking off for a trip visiting family. Holiday product reviews are still coming as scheduled but I might be a little slow in getting back to comments/ tweets, just want to give you a heads up :)

Have a great start of the day, everyone!

NOTD: DifferentDimension Homeboy

It has been a long while, but here is my second try of Different Dimension's 80's Baby collection. If you missed it, the first NOTD from the brand was Gnarly, the green.

This is Homeboy, the blue :) Fair to say that I love it even more than I did Gnarly. It has more to do with the colour and how it makes me feel than with the holographic strength, as the two shades have about the same level of holo effect.

The demo pic of Homeboy on Different Dimension's etsy page showed a dark navy blue, but they did note at the time I bought the set that the official colour would be a lot lighter. You know me, I prefer a darker blue, but this blue will still do :)

It is a beauty, isn't it? Homeboy cheered me up through the freezing weather we have been having, and oh don't I need some cheering up?

If you say I'm artificial for saying that, I'll take it, as nail polish (and makeup) means different things to different people. I'm all for finding an outlet for our emotional feelings, and if it happens to be Homeboy or some other pretty nail polish, I'm totally fine with that.

Anyway, to be fair to Homeboy, I wouldn't compare it to the well known China Glaze OMGs as it was made to be scattered holo and that's what it is.

One more look at it? Sure, here it is, up close. A bit of tip wear there, as this is second day nail.

Similar to Gnarly, Homeboy lasted about two days on me and I had a split on my index nail at the end of it. Hate when that happens.

Anyway, I am home with family but it's hard to say when or how jetlag would hit me until it does. There won't be Weekly flyer deal post for a while, but you'll understand, right? :)

I hope my American friends are ready to spend quality time with loved ones over Thanksgiving. It looks like Black Friday sales are getting crazier in Canada every year. Shop without me, but do tell.
